Stored Credential Readiness

We’d like to advise all our customers that the deadline to implement new rules from Visa and Mastercard on stored credential transactions has been extended to 30 June 2020.

Please confirm your compliance

We need to ensure that customers and their PSPs are submitting stored credential identifiers and following the stored credential rules before the 30th June 2020.

Please click here to visit the attestation page and confirm your readiness – it should only take you a few minutes to update this.

What are the stored credential rules?

Visa and Mastercard have introduced rules on transactions where card numbers or tokenized card numbers are stored for future purposes.

There are two stored credential transaction types:

  • Cardholder Initiated Transactions – where the cardholder actively completes a transaction using previously stored details
  • Merchant Initiated Transactions – where you complete a transaction using previously stored details, e.g. a recurring payment

See the following links for more information:

  • Please see this Operational Guide, as it outlines when to submit a stored credential identifier, and which identifier to submit depending on the transaction type
  • Please see this Integration Guide, as it explains how to submit the identifiers to our gateways in payment submissions

Merchants and their payment services providers must follow these rules, and may receive cardholder complaints, chargebacks from issuers, and non-compliance assessments from Visa and Mastercard if they don’t comply.

Please be aware that Worldpay reserves the right to pass on non-compliance assessments from Visa and Mastercard.

In addition, Merchant Initiated Transactions are exempt from Strong Customer Authentication (SCA). By following the rules, issuers can identify Merchant Initiated Transactions and exclude them from SCA, allowing you to avoid unnecessary declines.
