Manual handling, first aid and GDPR added to online learning offer

04 July 2019

Suresite Group has launched three new online courses for retailers.

Self-study modules in manual handling, first aid and GDPR are aimed at employees in every kind of retail business, including convenience stores and petrol forecourts.

With study times of between 30 minutes (manual handling) and 2-3 hours (first aid), each interactive course offers the option to stop and start when required. Modules can be completed on an internet-enabled PC, laptop, tablet or smartphone.

Manual handling

The manual handling online study course will equip employees to understand the responsibilities and risks associated with manual handling. It will give them a good understanding of how to move, lift, push and pull objects safely and efficiently. The course will give staff an understanding of how to prevent musculoskeletal disorders resulting from poor manual handling practice. It is relevant for employees working in retail environments, from c-stores, to supermarkets and petrol stations.

The Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992 (MHOR) require employers to manage the risks to their employees and ensure their health.

First aid

The basic first aid eLearning module will provide retail employees with an elementary grounding. It will introduce the importance of first aid in the workplace and help employees to understand the responsibilities of both themselves and the employer. After completing the course, they will be able to identify common injuries and illnesses and their treatments and comprehend how to minimise or eliminate them.

The course provides awareness education and should be followed by face-to-face training for any staff who are adopting the first aider position within the organisation.

The Suresite Group GDPR online course will teach retail employees what they need to do when handling personal or sensitive data to comply with EU GDPR.

Once they have completed this course – which comes in two parts – they will understand the implications of GDPR and the responsibilities they have to ensure data is properly stored, processed and protected, know when to ask supervisors for appropriate data privacy policies and be able to correctly answer customer or other queries relating to data protection. Each part takes approximately 40 minutes, including a multiple choice quiz at the end.

Keith Bevan,  chief business development officer, said: “All Suresite Group online training is designed to engage and stimulate retail employees. The interactive activities, coupled with real-world examples, ensure that all learners are able to engage fully with the material.

“By making the learning memorable, fun and interactive we can increase knowledge retention rates.”
All courses have been developed in partnership with Bolt Learning.

Suresite Group’s online learning opportunities also include safety on the forecourt, competent persons, tobacco retail, and age related sales.

Each course costs £25+VAT per trainee. Certificates can be downloaded upon successful completion.
