Called Tobacco – Retail, the highly engaging new module, offered in partnership with Bolt Learning, is aimed at forecourt and convenience store staff. It not only explains the legislation retail employees need to know, but also includes invaluable tips and category knowledge to help increase sales.
The self-study eLearning course takes just 30 minutes and can be completed on any device with an internet connection and webcam, including mobiles and tablets.
At the end of the course, the learner will be able to understand the tobacco market and sell tobacco in an informed manner. They will recognise the importance of selling tobacco lawfully and the consequences of not doing so. And they will understand how legislation affects tobacco products.
Three versions are available, that take into account the different tobacco legislation in England, Scotland and Wales.
Barry Mullins, sales manager, Suresite, said: “Tobacco remains a critical footfall driver for many stores. But the sale of tobacco is obviously strictly regulated in terms of age restriction, advertising and display.
“Any breach of the regulations can result in fines up to £5000, imprisonment and ultimately closure of the business. This module takes the stress off managers by ensuring staff really understand this key category.
“Our tobacco handling course uses cutting-edge technology to present content that really engages, tests and involves store staff.
“Real-life, practical examples of decisions and processes that staff experience, in the selling of tobacco will teach them new skills and knowledge that will help them successfully sell the category legally and successfully.
“The new eLearning module offers a time and cost-effective way for convenience store and forecourt retailers to offer high-impact staff training and the certificate on completion gives you proof that training has taken place.”
The tobacco handling module is the fourth in a series of new-style online courses, launched by Suresite in partnership with Bolt Learning. Other courses include Safety on the Forecourt, Competent Persons and Age Related Sales.
Suresite’s Tobacco-Retail course costs just £25 per head.
According to the ACS Local Shop report 2018, staff rate on the job training as the most valuable benefit.
